Research

With an age of approx. 50 years logistics is still a very young science discipline with many untreated, scientific questions.

Megatrends such as demand-driven production, growing environmental awareness, increasing limitation of resources or even internationalization are push forward logistics innovations. Technical innovations in information technology (e.g. RFID, Internet of Things (IoT)), communication technology (telematics) and multimedia (VR, AR) enable and require new logistical solutions.

The ILM is constantly facing new challenges. For this, new models and tools for planning and controlling the production and logistics networks must be developed.
New, prototypical technology solutions using information and communication technology and automation technology are developed and tested in cooperation with national and international research partners and industry. The ILM is increasingly researching in the areas of intelligent logistics systems.
In collaboration with the Fraunhofer IFF, the RFID test laboratory LogMotionLab is researching application scenarios for intelligent logistics objects using tracking, communication, identification and sensor technologies. The LogModellLab uses a collection of demonstration, analysis, and test tools to explore various real-time control strategies for dynamic production networks.
